Final round of Winter cross country 30.7.16
The final pointscore round of the Nowra Athletics Winter cross country season was held at Longreach Rd on Saturday.
It was a beautiful sunny Winter afternoon; one of the best we’ve had this season.

To finish the season Tynan Caswell came home as the winner in the 1 kilometre event with Lexie Burinaga second and Amba Florance third. Eli Caswell was fourth and Noah Dyball rounded out the event in fifth spot.

In the 2 kilometre event Darcy Arnold took line honours in Division 1 with Toby Dyball and Cameron Harrison second and third respectively. Division 2 was won by Alastair Urquhart with consistent young runner Katie Martin second and Levi Wallis third.

Division 1 of the 3 kilometre event was won by Jasper Arnold. William Pratt was second, Oscar Goley third and Scott Delo fourth.
Andrew Havadjia took advantage of his Go marker position to secure a win and valuable points in Division 2. Emily Burinaga ran in second; Ella Dyball was third; Thomas Pratt fourth and Jasper Leung fifth.

Medium course saw Ethan Havadjia push hard from a 1 minute handicap start to win the event; finishing with a celebration heave that Dad Andrew was proud of! Paul Duncan finished second and Peter Dooley was third. Division 2 was won by Ian Robinson. Rod Rose ran in second and Megan Fitt claimed third.
Medium course Division 3 was run and won by Alex Arnold followed by Alison Havadjia, Donna Johnson and then Di Court.

It was Scott Johnson off a 1.50 minute handicap who crossed the line first in the long course event. Bradley Sawyers was not far behind and then next was Perry Strand. Richard Bosdyk ran in next, then Scott Martin, Bill Broughton and then Ming Leung.
Long Course Division 2 winner was Kathy Hopkins followed by David Hughes. Then Rob Woods, Sky Martin and Lisa Carroll summed up the field.

Further afield Nowra Athletics had some good results at NSW Short Course Cross Country Championships which were held at Dapto on Saturday. After seven years at Rydalmere the NSW Short Course moved south, to the purpose build cross country venue, managed by Kembla Joggers at Integral Energy Park, West Dapto. This was a great move for local runners and once again Jye Edwards brought home the Gold for Nowra winning the Under 20 5km event in a time of 15.05 minutes. Congratulations Jye on another win!
Troy Whittington finished top ten with a 9th place and Hugh Dobson finished 34th.

In the Under 12 1.5km event Jake Babian finished 15th with brother James coming in 28th and Bethany Dobson was 30th.
In the Under 14 2.5km event Rhys Flood was the first Nowra athlete home in 15th place. Ben Shephard was 33rd; Alec Dobson was 41st and Chelsea Pascoe was 49th.

The combined Under 18 Female and Under 16 Male event of 2.5km saw Jesse Buckham finish 19th with Jaylah Cameron-Hancock place 34th; Shenay Edwards 47th and Taliah Moxham 60th. Dannielle Holt was 66th and Leah Dobson placed 72nd overall.

In the 55+ event over 5 km Martin Tomasini was first home for Nowra in 6th place overall. Milton Cox was 32nd; Kevyn Davis 41st and Ann Swinbourne was 56th.
In the female open, 35+, 45+ event Teresha Moxham placed 11th overall. Crissy Sufolk was next best for Nowra in 21st place. Annette Sampson was 32nd; Angela Bond was 36th and Laura Babian was 38th.
Whilst in the Male event Arron Spiessberger-Parker was Nowra’s fastest in 15th place overall with Leith Babian also competing and finishing 44th.

Next Saturday the final end of season event will be held at Willandra. A sausage sizzle will be provided and athletes are invited to bring a salad or something sweet to share. In addition there will be a special Presentation for the State XC Championships medal winners so if these Club members from the various medal winning teams could attend they will be justly rewarded!
